2015 ACC Summary

Monday, October 26, 2015

The 2015 American Control Conference (ACC), July 1–3, was held at the Hilton Palmer House, in downtown Chicago, Illinois, just minutes away from Lake Michigan, city parks, museums, the theater district, and most of Chicago’s landmarks. The conference had 954 accepted papers, 19 parallel sessions, 45 invited sessions, 12 special sessions, 11 workshops, 18 exhibits, and attracted more than 1450 registrants from more than 60 countries. In parallel with the 19 sessions was a one-day workshop for high school students and teachers on “The Power, Beauty and Excitement of Cross-Boundaries Nature of Control, a Field that Spans Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics.” The event marked the fifteenth anniversary of such outreach activities supported by the AACC and CSS. In addition to participation from the society cosponsors and others, we were pleased to host a large number of committee meetings of member societies and journals, as well as the administrative and technical meetings of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC), which is led by its President Janan Zaytoon. In a first, it was our pleasure to also host the IEEE Control Systems Award ceremony, in addition to the the AACC/ACC awards ceremony. Our seven gold and fourteen silver sponsors are thanked for their financial support of the conference. The contributions of the strong operating conference, the Society Review Chairs, plenary and semiplenary speakers, authors, and reviewers are also appreciated for contributing to the success of the conference.  (Report by Richard D. Braatz, Conference General Chair).
