ACC 2018 Women in Control Luncheon
June 27, 2018
There were 80 attendees at our bi-annual WiC luncheon at the ACC 2018 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Welcomes were given by ACC 2018 General Chair, Jordan Berg, IEEE CSS VP Member Activities, Li-Chen Fu, IEEE CSS President, Francesco Bullo, and AACC President, Richard Braatz. Prof. Bullo discussed the IEEE CSS efforts to reaffirm its ethical values and to develop new strategies to increase diversity and inclusion within the society (see his recently published President’s Message in the IEEE CSM Aug. 2018 issue, with reference to the IEEE Women in Tech survey). NSF Program Director Irina Dolinskaya and IEEE WIE Chair Bozenna Pasik-Duncan also addressed the audience.
The Assistant Director (AD) of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering Directorate, Dawn Tilbury, gave a keynote talk. Dr. Tilbury discussed the NSF Includes program, a comprehensive initiative to enhance U.S. leadership in science and engineering discovery and innovation by proactively seeking and effectively developing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) talent from all sectors and groups in our society.
