Jan-Willem van Wingerden (Senior Member, IEEE) was born in Ridderkerk, The Netherlands, in 1980. He received the B.S. and Ph.D. (cum laude) degrees in mechanical engineering and in control engineering from the Delft Center for Systems and Control, Delft University of Technology, Delft, The Netherlands, in 2004 and 2008, respectively. His Ph.D. thesis was entitled Smart Dynamic Rotor Control for Large Offshore Wind Turbines. He is currently a full Professor with the Delft University of Technology. His current research is mainly centered around the development of data driven controllers for wind turbines and wind farms.
