Welcome to the American Automatic Control Council (AACC) website. AACC was founded in 1957. Its mission statement is “to promote cooperation among the various segments of the automatic control profession within the US, and to represent the US in international activities.” To implement the mission, AACC is the United States’ National Member Organization of the International Federation for Control (IFAC). In this role, AACC facilitates participation in IFAC by US control engineers.
AACC does not have individuals as members. Rather, to widely promote cooperation throughout the control profession, our members include professional engineering societies that have an interest in automatic control. The current membership is: American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), Applied Probability Society (APM, a subdivision of INFORMS), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), International Society of Automation (ISA), Society for Modeling & Simulation International (SCS), and Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). Each member society selects a person to represent their organization on the AACC Board of Directors. AACC is a non-profit organization, returning our entire annual surplus to our member organizations.
In addition to representing the US in IFAC, AACC’s major activities include two high-quality annual conferences: the American Control Conference (ACC) offered in late Spring or early Summer, and the Modeling Estimation and Control Conference (MECC) offered in the Fall. The proceedings of these conferences are archived in IEEE’s Xplore and IFAC’s PapersOnLine, respectively. AACC also coordinates all IFAC symposiums, workshops and conferences held in the United States, and sponsors a set of awards that are given annually at the ACC.
